Your Source for Fishing Data
I collected enough data/hour to prove that the WoW uses a six hour fishing “period”. In other words, the WoW has 4 separate drop rates for some fish, those rates change every 6 hours, or periods. Those periods are: 0000-0600, 0600-1200, 1200-1800, 1800-0000. Within each period the drop rate remains constant, and so far appears to change instantly the moment the clock ticks to the first second of the next period. Originally I had supposed that the drop rates may increase/decrease during the first hour of a new period, but the data does not support this supposition. Thus the data presented here is based on the 4 period theory. Most of the data on the site is based on one hour of fishing or one hundred casts, depending on the fish that drop there. For example, Azshara fishing rates were obtained after thousands of casts, while SSC info was based on one hundred. I determine the amount of time I spend in each area based on the type of loot that drops there. Unfortunately there doesn’t appear to be any major differences in drops based on times of day for Outlands’ fish, so the data from there isn’t as detailed, though you can still see which types of fish drop where.
